| I am researching both state and federal U.S. postal records as they
relate to genealogical research. I am currently working on two major projects.
The first is a transcription of the National Archives Microfilm series
M1131, Records of First Returns of Postmasters, 1789-1832. This is tough
work as many year numbers are covered and the handwriting is both difficult
to read and worn out. This will be a quality transcription work with all
questions noted, illegible names and numbers researched and documented,
and symbols and abbreviations described in detail. Most of the transcription
is complete and I am in the verification and editing stage.
The second work may be titled "Researching Your Postal Ancestors." I
will be compiling and describing the many documents and resources created
by federal and state postal facilities that document the people who worked
for the postal service.
